The Oratorio Society of New York presents one of Sibelius’s greatest symphonic choral works, Kullervo, a 70-minute suite that follows the life of the tragic character featured in Finland’s national epic poem, Kalevala. Featuring Finnish soprano Johanna Rusanen.

The late Harriet Nilsen started a tradition, a concert in January to brighten things up in midwinter. Each year, what has now become the annual Harriet Nilsen Winter Concert opens the American Scandinavian Society’s season in an up-beat way. The concert features artists who have received American Scandinavian Society Cultural Grant Awards, among them Kaisa Mäensivu and Virva Hinnemo.

On Tuesday, January 22nd, Finland Center Foundation is hosting a student panel discussion for Finnish college students who are studying in New York. Students are welcome to attend and share their thoughts on their experiences of studying in the USA, and the differences between Finnish and American higher education systems.
The event will be held in the Women’s Lab, at the Centre for Social Innovation at 6:30 pm – 8 pm. Light refreshments will be served. Please note: This event will be organized in Finnish or English depending on the audience.
